In her writing, which is dated from 1993, she espouses a now very out of date belief, popular among socially conservative democrats that adult entertainment is demeaning and disempowering to women.

Since the advent of the internet, however, such notions have proven to be very far from the truth. The online adult entertainment industry has given individuals–both men and women equally–the ability to express their sexuality. The National Pastime Theater, Chicago’s premier theatrical provocateurs, presents their 2nd annual fine arts festival Naked July: Art Stripped Down. At The National Pastime Theater the entire month of July will be filled with lovely, provoking and aggressive bodies. NPT’s festival aims to reveal the human body as beautiful in every shape, size and color (including Technicolor). By exposing these physical differences, audiences discover the innate similarities in all human bodies – we are all made of the same material both natural and beautiful.

The National Pastime Theater presents the world premier of The Emperor’s New Clothes by Keely Haddad-Null as the headlining performance of its second annual Naked July: Art Stripped Down festival. Based on the tale by Hans Christian Anderson, The Emperor’s New Clothes explores what happens when a corrupt Mayor of a futuristic Los Angeles hires a Tailor with fantastical talent who dares to answer the age-old questions, “Why work so hard to get others naked?”  NPT is pleased to welcome back The Living Canvas whose Nocturne played to sold out audiences during NPT’s inaugural Naked July Festival.  This year they bring Living Canvas: Demons, a journey through the mind of a young woman, encountering creatures of nightmare, mystery, and merriment.  Clock Productions takes a turn down farcical lane with The Tumultuous Tale of the Tragically Transparent Tunic, a different take on Anderson’s Classic Tale, filled with slapstick comedy and wonderfully campy elements.  For those with an appetite for the sensual, curator Shifra Werch presents Eros, the multi-media performance exploring the aphrodisiac elements.
Naked July: Art Stripped Down opens July 2nd and runs through August 1st. Fridays and Saturdays begin with The Emperor’s New Clothes at 8pm and Living Canvas: Demons at 10pm. The Tumultuous Tale of the Tragically Transparent Tunic appears beginning July 8th Thursdays at 8pm and Sundays at 6pm with Eros following at 10pm on Thursdays and 8pm Sundays.

Throughout the festival, The National Pastime Theater transforms its lobby into an art gallery.  On display are works from local Chicago artists that focus on the idea of naked, be it literal or figurative.  Weekly private auctions are open to the general public.
